Allen Price was engaged to provide town planning advice for the preparation of a development application for alterations and additions to a dwelling on a constrained site recently listed as a local heritage item by Kiama Council.
Leveraging the property’s prominent setting next to the Kiama Showgrounds, this ambitious redevelopment project sought to expand the existing dwelling by adding a new 3 storey addition to the rear, off-street car spaces, living areas and a rooftop terrace.
The built form of the proposed new dwelling was designed to reinforce the site’s expansive coastal setting overlooking the Pacific Ocean while complementing the architectural form established by existing adjacent high rise in the locality.
Our engagement involved working closely in collaboration with the client, and building designer, to prepare a robust DA submission that rigorously addressed local planning requirements such as existing use rights, view loss and heritage and justified the unique attributes of the proposed site redevelopment. The DA was approved in January 2025 and the site is ready for construction to commence.
